Why white backgrounds?
A plain white background keeps the buyer's attention on the product, makes a store look consistent, and is required or strongly preferred for the main image on several marketplaces.
What marketplaces usually ask for
- Amazon: the main image normally needs a pure white background, with the product filling most of the frame, and a large enough size (around 1000 pixels or more on the long side) to enable zoom.
- Etsy: square or consistent image shapes and a high resolution (large images around 2000 pixels wide are recommended).
- Shopify: consistent square images, often around 2048 × 2048 pixels, work well across a store.
Take a better photo first
Shoot near a window in soft daylight, use a white sheet or poster board as the background, keep the camera level and fill most of the frame with the product. A clean, even background makes the cutout much cleaner.
Remove the background free
Use the product photo background remover: choose your photo, pick White, tick "Square canvas" and download. It runs in your browser, so your photos are not uploaded. For other uses see remove background and transparent background maker.
Finish: size and file weight
Large images slow a store down. After the cutout, use the compress tool or 500KB option so the page loads fast without visible quality loss. Resize to an exact pixel size with the resize tool if a marketplace asks for one.
Know the limits
A small in-browser model works best on products against a plain background. Fine hair, glass, shiny reflections and busy scenes can leave rough edges, so zoom in and check the result before publishing.
