What you need
A phone, a window with soft daylight and a plain sheet of white or light grey paper. No expensive equipment is required.
Set up the light
Place the paper next to a window and shoot in indirect daylight. Direct sun makes harsh reflections on metal and stones. If shadows are too dark, hold a white card opposite the window.
Take the photo
Clean the jewelry first, wipe the phone lens, tap to focus on the piece and take several shots from slightly different angles. Use a tripod or lean the phone on a stack of books for sharpness.
Clean the background
Open the jewelry background remover, choose white and tick Square canvas. Use Restore to bring back thin chains and Erase for leftover bits.
Resize and compress
Resize to 2000×2000 for crisp listings, then compress if the file is too large.
Common mistakes
Using flash (it creates glare), photos that are too dark, and over-editing so the colour no longer matches the real piece. Buyers return items that look different from the photo.
