How to Convert PNG to JPG (and When You Should)

PNG files are great for graphics but often too large for photo uploads. Converting to JPG can shrink them a lot.

Why convert PNG to JPG

PNG keeps every pixel, so photos saved as PNG are often several times bigger than the same photo as a JPG. Many forms and websites also ask specifically for JPG.

Convert in four steps

  1. Open the PNG to JPG converter.
  2. Choose one or more PNG files.
  3. Pick a quality level. High keeps the most detail, Low gives the smallest file.
  4. Download the JPG files.

What happens to transparency

JPG cannot store transparent areas, so they become white. If you need the transparent background, keep the PNG or use WebP instead.
