Why do this now
Sales peak in the weeks before Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Christmas, and shoppers decide fast. A clean, bright main photo makes a listing look trustworthy. Fixing photos in October or early November also gives marketplaces time to accept and index your updated listings before the rush.
Sizes at a glance
| Marketplace | What to aim for |
|---|---|
| Amazon | Pure white background; product should fill most of the frame; larger images (1000 px or more on the longest side) enable zoom |
| Etsy | Large, sharp images; a square or 4:3 crop works well, and bigger originals (around 2000 px or more) look best |
| Shopify | Consistent square images; 2048 × 2048 px is a common choice |
| eBay | At least 500 px on the longest side, and 1600 px lets buyers zoom |
Step 1: Shoot clean
Place the product near a window with soft daylight, on a plain light surface. Avoid harsh flash, which creates hard shadows. For shiny items, shoot at a slight angle so the light does not bounce straight back. See how to take product photos with your phone.
Step 2: Make the background white
Open the background remover for Amazon listings (or the Etsy and Shopify versions), add your photo and choose a white background. Check the edges and use the Restore and Erase brushes for hair, glass or fine detail. The photo is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
Step 3: Resize for the marketplace
Use 2000 × 2000 for Amazon and Etsy zoom, 2048 × 2048 for Shopify or 1600 × 1600 for eBay. Only enlarge a photo if you must, because upscaling cannot add detail.
Step 4: Keep files light
Heavy images slow down listing pages. If a marketplace or your site wants smaller files, compress last with the 500KB or 200KB tool, and check the product still looks sharp.
Holiday photo ideas that still follow the rules
Keep the first (main) image plain and white, then use the extra images for lifestyle and gift-wrap shots, a size comparison next to a hand, and a close-up of detail. Marketplace rules differ by category and change over time, so confirm the current image policy on the marketplace before you upload.
Quick checklist
Plain white main photo, product centred and large in the frame, sharp focus, no text or watermarks on the main image, correct pixel size, and a file small enough to load fast. For more sizes see best photo size for eBay, Etsy, Amazon and Shopify.
