Resize image in inches

Type the size in inches and pick a DPI. The pixel size is worked out for you, and nothing is uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Type the width and height in inches.
  2. Choose the DPI (300 for print and most forms).
  3. Choose your photo, check the fit mode and download the result.

How inches turn into pixels

Pixels = inches × DPI. At 300 DPI, a 4 × 6 inch print needs 1200 × 1800 pixels. That is why a phone photo of 4000 × 3000 pixels prints well at 8 × 10 inches or larger.

Common sizes at 300 DPI: 2 × 2 in is 600 × 600 px (US passport and visa photos), 4 × 6 in is 1200 × 1800 px, 5 × 7 in is 1500 × 2100 px, 8 × 10 in is 2400 × 3000 px. At 72 DPI the same sizes would be only 144 × 144, 288 × 432, 360 × 504 and 576 × 720 pixels.

Use "Crop to fill" to keep the frame full and trim the edges, "Fit inside" to keep the whole photo with white bars, or "Stretch" to force the exact size. See also our guide to holiday card and social media photo sizes.

If a site asks for a file size in KB or MB, resize here first and then use the compress tool. If you work in centimetres, use the resize image in cm page.
