What "removing the background" means
The tool separates the main subject from everything behind it. The result is either a transparent PNG, where the old background is see-through, or a JPG with a new plain colour behind the subject.
Step by step
- Open the background remover.
- Choose your photo. The first time, a small AI model of about 16 MB loads, which can take 10 to 20 seconds.
- Wait a few seconds while it finds the subject.
- Pick Transparent, White, Light grey or Black.
- Download the image.
Which photos give the cleanest result
Single subjects against a plain, contrasting backdrop work best: a product on a white sheet, a mug on a table, clothes on a hanger. Even daylight without hard shadows helps a lot.
When edges look rough
Fine hair, fur, glass, smoke and busy scenes are hard for any automatic tool, and a small in-browser model has less detail than the biggest paid services. Try a photo with a plainer backdrop, more contrast between subject and background, or a higher resolution original.
PNG or JPG?
Use PNG when you need transparency, for example to place a logo or sticker on another design. Use JPG with a white background for shop listings and forms, because the file is much smaller. Shrink it further with the image compressor if needed.
Privacy
The tool runs inside your browser using WebAssembly. Your photo is not uploaded to a server, so it works for private pictures too.
