Do you need a new photo?
In most countries a renewal needs a brand new photo that meets the current rules. You usually cannot reuse the old passport photo, even if you look the same, because the photo must be recent.
How recent must it be?
Many countries ask for a photo taken in the last 6 months. Your office may reject older ones or those that look edited.
Rules usually match a first passport
Plain background, neutral expression, both eyes open, no glare on glasses and no filters. If the standard changed since your last passport, follow the new one.
Make it yourself
Take a photo in daylight, then crop it with the right maker: US, UK, Canada, Australia or another country. Then print copies with the print sheet if you need paper photos.

Renewal rules and online options differ between countries and change over time. Read your passport office's current instructions before you apply.
