The key numbers
| Item | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Photo size | 50 mm wide x 70 mm high (2 x 2 3/4 inches) |
| Pixels at 300 DPI | 591 x 827 |
| Head size | About 31 to 36 mm from chin to crown |
| Background | Plain white or light |
Why the size looks different
A 50 x 70 mm photo is taller and larger than the 35 x 45 mm format used in the UK and Australia, and it is not square like the US photo. If you crop to the wrong shape, the photo will not match the requirement even if your face looks fine.
Who takes the photo
Canadian passport applications normally ask for photos from a commercial photographer, who also adds details on the back of the print. Read the official page before you decide to print one yourself.
