Set up the shot
- Put the document on a flat, plain surface with a contrasting color, such as a white page on a dark table.
- Use daylight or a bright room, and avoid casting your own shadow on the page.
- Turn off the flash, because it causes glare that hides text.
Take the photo
- Hold the phone directly above the document, parallel to it, so the page is not tilted.
- Fit the whole page in the frame, with a small margin around it.
- Tap the screen to focus, and take the photo at the phone's normal quality.
Check it before you upload
Zoom in and make sure every word, number and stamp is readable. If anything is blurry, retake the photo rather than trying to fix it later.
Make it small enough to upload
Phone photos are often several MB. Many portals set a limit, so compress the file to the size they ask for.
For signatures, see how to make a signature image under 20KB. Always follow the exact format and size rules shown on the form you are filling in.
