How to Make a Profile Picture with No Background (LinkedIn, Instagram, Discord)

Cut yourself out of a photo and put a clean solid colour or transparent background behind you.

Why remove the background?

A plain background makes a small profile picture easier to read and looks more professional. It also hides a messy room.

Step 1: choose a good photo

Pick a sharp photo of yourself, well lit from the front, with your head and shoulders in the frame. Avoid busy patterns that match your hair or clothes.

Step 2: remove the background

Open the profile picture background remover and add your photo. It works on your device, so your face is not uploaded anywhere.

Step 3: choose a colour

For LinkedIn a soft grey, white or light blue looks professional. For gaming or social accounts, pick any custom colour. Choose a square result so the picture is not cropped badly.

LinkedIn specifically

See LinkedIn headshot for tips. Keep your face large in the frame and avoid heavy filters.

Check hair edges

Hair is the hardest part. Zoom in and use the Restore brush to bring back fine strands, or the Erase brush to remove leftover background.

Upload size

Most platforms accept a few MB. If one rejects the file, use the 200KB tool.
