Two kinds of online tools

Some tools upload your picture to their server, process it there and send it back. Others do the work inside your browser, so the picture stays on your own device. For personal documents, the second kind is safer, because your file is never sent to anyone.

How to check a tool

  1. Open the tool page and let it finish loading.
  2. Turn off your internet connection (airplane mode or disconnect Wi-Fi).
  3. Try the tool with a picture. If it still works, the processing happens in your browser.

If the tool stops working without internet, it probably needs to send your picture to a server.

Other things to look for

How PicFitter works: the image tools run in your browser. Read our privacy policy and About page.

What we still use

Being open about it: PicFitter pages still load fonts and anonymous visit statistics like most websites, and may show ads. Your pictures themselves are not sent to our servers. For passport photos and other official documents, you should also keep a copy of the final file and follow the rules of the office you are applying to.
